Derek Landy

On the school holidays I had the pleasure of attending an author talk by
Derek Landy.
Mr Landy travelled from Ireland to tell us about his very popular book series
Skulduggery Pleasant.
Mr Landy is a very animated and articulate speaker. He captivated and engaged the whole audience, explaining how the idea of the story of Skulduggery Pleasant, the savvy well dressed skeleton detective and the other main characters just popped into his mind one day on a journey to London, England. The first Skulduggery book was published in 2007. Mr Landy has just published the 9th and final book in the Skulduggery series, "The Dying of the Light", and is now working on a new completely different book series about a 16 year old girl, chased by evil across America. Mr Landy was asked if there will be a Skulduggery movie and he told us that he had had lengthy talks (3 years!) with Warner Brothers movie company which in the end fell through. Mr Landy was not too upset about this fact as he was worried the movie script deviated from the actual story. He is now in discussion with another movie company, where he feels he has more control over the finalised script.

BOOK WEEK

CONNECT TO READING - READING TO CONNECT
BOOK WEEK 2014

Our library has been a hive of activity this week with classes
getting into the spirit of this year's Book Week theme:
Connect to reading - Reading to connect

We have had buddy classes reading to younger students
some of their favourite stories,
discussing how they connect with the story
Text to Self : Text to Text : Text to World

We have also been running a Guess Who?? competition with
students guessing which teacher is holding which book
 - the prize being a book :)

The winners were:
Lianna Morris (PP), Keely Ralph (Yr1), Mitch Peters (Yr2/3B)
Luka Butterworth (Yr2/3R), Tom Leo (Yr4),
Amy Byrne (Yr5) & Gisele Gould (Yr 6)
Congratulations!

Lunchtime in the library has been very busy as we have been
making Rainbow paper chains (linking our colourful circles
together connecting with each other) and completing a
School Community colouring in of an Indian Elephant
(connecting with the upcoming Zest Fest).
These will remain on display in the library.

To finish off our hectic week we ran a
favourite book character fancy dress on Friday.
With lots of fabulous costumes the lucky winners received
a $10 voucher to be spent at the news agency on a
book or magazine of choice.
Here are some of the fantastic contestants - great work!

BOOK FAIR

Due to the generosity of our School Community we were able to sell over $1700 worth of books at our recent Book Fair (15th & 16th May).
This resulted in our Library being able to add $500 worth of new and relevant books to our collection for the enjoyment of all students.
Thank you to all the families who supported our Book Fair and a special thank you to Joy Duncan for volunteering some time to help at the Fair.
Our next Book Fair will be held in Term 4.
